07/23/2010 Unemployment Extension Legislation Finally Passes, Sign
President Barack Obama signed legislation into law on Thursday, July 22, that will provide a six-month extension of jobless benefits for the unemployed. The legislation restores aid to nearly 3 million people whose checks have been cut off since the program expired in early June.
President Obama signed the legislation less than three hours after the House of Representatives approved the $34 billion measure with a vote of 272 to 152. The Senate had previously passed the measure on July 21st after months of dispute over the legislation.

07/16/2010 AASC Online Captures Resident-Level Cost Savings Data
AASC has recently made progress in capturing important cost savings data to support the belief that service coordination ultimately saves money. On July 1, the Pangea Foundation released the resident-level cost savings module in the AASC Online software for service coordinators developed by AASC and Pangea in 2005. The cost savings module allows users to document, track and report on the amount of money service coordinators are able to save for their residents—new savings from food stamps, donations, new entitlements, taxi vouchers, prescription discounts and more. Any real dollar savings that the service coordinator facilitates on behalf of the resident can be tracked.
According to Jan Monks, President of AASC, “AASC routinely uses the aggregate data collected in AASC Online to show how many residents are served, how many services are delivered, and how many seniors are able to age in place because of service coordinators. While these statistics are impressive (see chart below), we also need to show the dollars and cents of service coordination. Being able to capture this first level of cost savings will add a huge impact to our message.”

Property Cost Savings will be also added to the AASC Online Cost Savings Module to capture money saved by the service coordinators when they prevent property damage, evictions, and 911 calls by working with residents to resolve these issues. Ultimately, Tax Payer Cost Savings will be addressed to show that when the service coordinator is able to keep a resident out of the nursing home by bringing services into the apartment, tens of thousands of Medicaid dollars are saved.

PSC Exam Now Online
AASC and Ohio State are proud to announce a new, convenient and affordable option to those interested in taking the comprehensive exam and achieving their Professional Service Coordinator (PSC) designation. The comprehensive exam is now available on-line at a college testing center near your home and/or office. Candidates who prefer to take the paper/pencil exam at a conference site may still do so, but when you consider that the cost of travel (airfare or mileage), hotel stays and incidentals can easily exceed $1000, the online exam offers substantial savings. Please visit http://aasc.osu.edu to review comprehensive exam options and registration details.
